Drop Box Notification System
Gauging
Systems Inc. (GSI) announces telemetry technology for Parcel Industry.
GSI announces the Drop Box Notification System (DBNS). The patent pending
technology notifies the parcel carrier when a package is deposited within a
Parcel Drop Box and when it is picked up. The DBNS eliminates the need for
drivers to go to empty drop boxes, wasting time, fuel, and vehicle wear and
tear, thus helping a driver schedule pick-ups late in the day when deadlines are
running tight. The DBNS also provides historical data on the Drop Box location,
i.e., usage, pickup time, etc.
The information from the DBNS is available via a time based or event based file
transfer, e-mail, pager, or posting to a WEB home page. The data can be easily
incorporated into scheduling / dispatch systems currently used by parcel
companies.
The (Un-published) "Patent Pending" covers many forms of current communication
technology such as Modem, Cellular (Control Channel), Radio (BlueTooth, WIFI, G,
and Spread Spectrum), Satellite, etc. and new sensor technology. Much of this
technology is aimed at Home Land Security in addition to providing economic cost
savings to the parcel industry and other industries with remote containers.
The DBNS also provides a series of options, i.e., Emergency button (to protect
drivers during pickups), Tilt switch (indicating vandalism), Biological or
explosive hazardous material monitoring (of packages), Weight (total weight of
packages within the drop box), Conductivity sensor indicating liquid within the
container, Photographing the user, Etc.
A post office box or public post box notification system option is also
available from GSI. It provides notification when mail is put into a post office
box. A message is sent to the box renter via e-mail, notifying the renter that
the box has mail.
